HISTORY OF DELFT

FATHER ON PAPER

For the city of Delft I am working on several papercuttings for the new city hall. All papercuttings are inspired by the history of Delft. This papercutting is about Willem van Oranje (Dutch ruler, 16th century) who worked a lot abroad far away from his children and first wife: Anna van Egmont. Some of their letters have been saved. The swan refers to her loneliness, a symbol commonly used in 16th century art.

Computer impression of the papercutting made out of sustainable felt in the office living room.

The works of art are being reproduced in wool felt. Made by a Dutch company that uses highly sustainable 100% wool felt.

The remake is beautifully done and really very close to the original, only softer and touchable!
